Bagri Jhola 17/12 :On 16th  December, 2003 3rd
Martyr’s Day has been observed at Bagrijhola in memory
of Raghunath Jhodia, Abhilash Jhodia and Damodor
Jhodia who were killed in the police firing at
Maikanch  on 16th December, 2000. Despite incessant
rains, hundreds of tribals and dalits, men and women,
took out a procession, under the banner of Prakritik
Sampad Surakshya Parishad (PSSP), in the proposed
plant area of Utkal Alumina International Limited
(UAIL).

People, gathered around Martyr’s Pillar, took oath not
to leave their land. Addressing people in the oath
taking programme, Bhagaban Majhi, Convenor, PSSP said,
“Company, administration, police, political parties
and NGOs are hand in glove to foil our movement. But
we will continue to fight to protect our land”.
Criticizing the policy of the Govt. to invite MNCs and
Indian Corporate houses to loot the natural resources,
he appealed to launch another freedom struggle in
co-operation with all the people’s struggle in the
country. Activists from Kashipur-Laxmipur-Dasmantpur,
in their addresses, condemned the P.K. Mishra
Commission Report and daubed the recent announcement
of the Orissa State Govt. to have a survey people’s
opinion about the proposed plant as a farce. They are
determined not to allow this survey, they said. In
this occasion, activists from other people’s struggle
of Orissa and outside, like Niyamgiri Surakshya
Samiti, Langigarh, L.D.P. Union, Damanjodi, Malkangiri
Adivasi Sangh, Gandha Mardan Surakshya Yuba Parishad,
Orissa Rajya Krishak Sangathan, Sunabeda Sangharsh
Vahini, Janavadi Sahitya Sanskruti Manch, Janbadi
Lekhak Manch, Damayanti Nari Sangathan, Chhatishgrh
Mukti Morcha (CMM), Narmada Bachao Andolan(NBA),
Adivasi Aikya Vedika of Andhra Pradesh participated
and appealed for unified struggle.


A booklet “Bhitamati ra Ladhei” written on Kashipur
struggle was inaugurated by Subarna Jhodia and Pannu
Jhodia, wife and mother of late Damodar Jhodia and
Raghunath Jhodia, respectively.
Gang-Gagrang-Jadu-Kadam, a cultural group from
Khaprakhol(Bolangir) performed  a street play,
“Baghdhara”.

On 17th December, 2003, at Kucheipadar a meeting was
organized taking representatives of all the people’s
struggle. The evil design of ruling Biju Janata Dal
(BJD) and Orissa Adivasi Manch, an NGO to float
another organization in the name of “Kashipur Jana
Andolan Sangathan” to weaken the struggle was
condemned in the meeting. A proposal was passed in the
meeting to form a front of all the people’s struggle
to resist the state oppression and to fight the
machination of NGOs and political parties. At the end,
Sankar Muduli, on behalf of PSSP, offered vote of
thanks to all the participating organizations.
